Inclusion
WE ARE COMMITTED TO HIGH ACHIEVEMENT FOR ALL, SUPPORTING PUPILS AND FAMILIES IN MAKING THE VERY BEST OF THE OPPORTUNITIES AVAILABLE TO THEM.
At Woodhill we firmly believe that all children have an entitlement to be educated alongside their peers in their local community. As an inclusive community, we are committed to developing inclusive cultures, policies and practices. We actively seek to remove the barriers to learning and participation that can hinder or exclude individual pupils, or groups of pupils. This means that equality of opportunity must be a reality for our children. We make this a reality through the attention that we pay to the different groups of children within our school:
At Woodhill, the Inclusion Team comprises Jen McKenna (Deputy Headteacher), Jodie Waterton (SENCo) and Julie Sillince (Home School Liaison Officer). The Inclusion team are supported by Jessica Gratien-Pillai (Pastoral Support Worker), John Laws (Learning Mentor) and Shannon Ward (Learning Mentor) and an assistant psychologist who support our SEN and vulnerable pupils at Woodhill Primary School.
SALT AND SOCIAL COMMUNICATION
Children with Speech and Language difficulties are supported via our Speech and Language specialist. In addition to this, the school provides a speech and language support worker who runs small groups and individualised programs on a daily basis.
Children who have been diagnosed with ASD or diagnosed with social and communication difficulties are supported via ASD outreach services that support the children in school to access their learning as well as Lego therapy that is delivered in house by our trained Teaching Assistants.
EMOTIONAL WELL BEING
The school has its own ‘CAMHS’ services supporting children, parents and staff with their emotional well-being. The various lead professionals for inclusion work closely with the link consultant and families of our most vulnerable children and put together a set of strategies to support both the children in school and at home to ensure that our children are getting the best quality provision.
BEHAVIOUR
The school has a Lead Professional for Behaviour as well as a team of pastoral support workers, all of whom work closely with children, teachers, and parents, to support children’s behaviour for learning. The school closely monitors and analyses both classroom and playground behaviour to ensure that the necessary support is provided where needed. The school runs targeted interventions to help support children develop their behaviour and ensure there is no interruption to learning. We communicate with parents and outside agencies to ensure a positive learning experience for every child, praising and rewarding good behaviour, which sets a high expectation across the school.
