Nasal Flu Vaccination
As part of the National Childhood Vaccination schedule your son/daughter is being offered the nasal flu
vaccination. This is being offered routinely to all children in special schools and children in primary and
secondary schools in the Royal Borough of Greenwich.
The annual nasal flu vaccination protects your child against flu, which can be an unpleasant illness
and in rare cases can sometime cause serious complications. Also, through herd immunity, vaccinated
children are less likely to pass the virus on to others, some of whom may be at great risk from flu. The
childhood nasal flu vaccination protects against 4 different strains of the flu virus.
The vaccination is given once yearly as a simple spray up each nostril, which is painless, very quick and
serious side effects are uncommon.
